Lots of people have been asking about the song on Y&R's 7-12-11 show called "When I'm With You" in the montage scene with Billy & Victoria after a scene in court (you can see the scene about 7 1/2 minutes into this YouTube clip)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhXVcK7WBLE

It is a nearly perfect song for the scene, and it has a Michael Kisur-like vibe to it (the singer-songwriter, who with collaborator Brad Hatfield won an Emmy for Y&R a few years ago, "Best Song For a Daytime Drama - SUNSHINE").

Hello Soap Fans - sorry if I've let you down, not blogging recently. There's been a lot of "stuff" going on in my life. But I'm back, because some fans asked me to get the info on the song that played on Y&R's November 19, episode. It was played at the end of the show, with Billy and Mack in the scene when Cloe walked back in the house. Some of the lines in the song were "These waves are crashing up and down. I need your hope I need your tenderness You are my begining and my end".

That was the song "One and Only” by Chris Carpenter. Please check this talented singer-songwriter out at his website and download the song from Itunes.

Wonder what that song was at the end of ONE LIFE TO LIVE's February episode? It was "WHEN IT'S ALL IN PIECES" - an original song written for the show that is not commercially available at the moment.
But fans...at last there a music section on SOAPNET.COM so that people can check every week, if they have questions about songs played on the show . Here is the link:

Hey folks - some fans really wanted to know who the singer of the song on Y&R's 9-12-08 episode was. It played in a scene when Amber and Daniel were about to kiss, (after she asked him to take her back) but her cell phone rang to interrupt the moment with a call from Liam.

I've gotten so many email requests for the song that no one can find...but it's here at www.soapsongs.com/page/index.asp. It's a haunting song written by one of our best singer-songwriters Bill Cinque, who with his collaborator Dave Robyn wrote this song specifically for The Young and The Restless, and was featured near the end of the episode on September 23, 2008. They are a team who've written so many songs for Y&R, and some of them are on our CD compilation "Favorite Songs Heard On The Young and The Restless" (TOGETHER, and ONCE IN A LIFETIME, available at : www.soapsongs.com/page/cd_yar_vol01.asp)

But this particular song "IT'S OVER ALL OVER AGAIN", is available as a single song download on our site at: www.soapsongs.com/page/index.asp. It was composed by David Kurtz and Jack Allocco exclusively for the show, and is not "destined" to be available to the public, at least for now. David and Jack are the same wonderful composers that write for Young and The Restless. When are these shows going to make some of the composers' songs available to the fans?!!

Songs on Various Episodes Identified!

Hello fellow soap watcher-listeners. I'm back!!! Sorry to have been away for so long, but there've been some big changes in my life, and I'm finding it challenging to continue with this blog. First of all, I'm not watching the soaps as much, so when your questions come in, I'm having to do some research with the music supervisors of the shows. So that's why it's taking me time to get back to you.
I've assembled some questions I've gotten, and will provide answers when I actually know the answers!

First question: What is the name of the song that Nikki and Victor (Y&R) danced to for their anniversary, but not sure...and then when he thought she was in the limo that crashed - he reminisced about her and that same song was playing.

Answer: The song is “Through the Eyes of Love” which is best known as the theme song in the movie ICE CASTLES recorded by Melissa Manchester.

Here's another question which I do NOT have the answer to:
Question: Do you know the song that they played on All My children when Aiden was saying goodbye to Greenlee on May 5, 2008 Hold Me Now? Are we Both Afraid is the first line.

Does anyone out there have the information on this song? If so, please email me at bjordan@soapsongs.com with the information. I'll be SO grateful!

Here's another Y&R question:

Question: Could you tell me the name of the song heard on May 22, 2008 and then again on July 21, 2008 as the background music when Victoria and Sabrina are at Crimson Light and are discussing Adam's mistake and then it was heard today again at Crimson Lights in the background when Sabrina and Victor are looking at sonogram of baby. The first lines are :
Waiting for you to turn the light off and to see if I needed anything else.
and it also has the lines..."seems like its never enough for you..waiting for you." I'd also like to know the singer and where this song can be purchased. Thanks for your help! I've search for the lyrics everywhere on the internet and cannot find it.

Answer: Okay, we got lots of emails on that one - and unfortunately, it's a song that's not available yet to the public, as Sony hasn't yet put up a website where you can download/purchase songs that the company owns the copyright to. In any case, the name of that beautiful song is "WAITING FOR YOU" and it's written by the 2 Y&R composers, David Kurtz and Jack Allocco, along with Monica Behan and Deron Johnson.

Question: I was wondering what is the tile and who performs the song on the young and the restless episode dated march 5th when Daniel carries Amber up the stairs, it's really catchy!!

Answer: Well, that "cue" is titled “Pucker” and was written by the Y&R composersThe cue is titled “Pucker” and was written by the Y&R composers. This is not available as a download at this time.

Question: Hi guys -- what was the song Nia sung at the end of the show today (February 14, 2008)? Is it available for download or sale?

Answer: The song is "For All Time" written by the Y&R composer, and not yet available to the public.

A fan sent Soapsongs.com an email at the end of last year asking about the name of the song playing on 12/26/07's Y&R while Amber closes Crimson Lights down for the night. It was a beautiful evocation of the love she was feeling that just wasn't being reciprocated.

Well, that song, "I Say Love", is written and sung by one of my favorite Boston-based singer-songwriters -- Todd Thibaud. You can listen to many of his songs on Itunes or his own site. You'll be glad you did.

French Song in Lily-Cane Parisian lovemaking scene on Young and Restless today

Ah, Lily and Cane finally make love on Valentine's Day on The Young and The Restless, to one our exclusive songs, JE SUIS HEUREUSE, which is available for download (probably by later today or tomorrow, so check back later today!) at the only site we know of for finding those really hard-to-find song gems you've heard on the shows!

It was a big moment for all the Lily-Cane (LANE) fans..Lily arranges for Cane to come upstairs, where she's decked out the room in French memorabilia and says "Welcome to Paris, and and then she says "I want you" in French...which is followed by her revealing her black and pink lingerie...and soon his shirt is off and they're in bed with each other - tres romantique!

Fisher wrote this song for Young and The Restless and we at Soapsongs.com have had a very special relationship with Fisher and some of her songs for over a decade. I love Fisher and her husband Ron more than I can say, because not only do they make such beautiful music together, but they are two of the most grateful and loving people I have ever met in the music industry. I could not have gone on at times without their support of what I've been trying to do in the world of film and television music. They are like music angels. And Fisher certain has the voice of one.

Hi everyone, I'm on vacation this week, but since I got so many emails from fans about the wonderful song JT played for Victoria on Friday, I had to write a blog entry!

This beautiful new song is "FOREVER", and was written by the Y&R composers Jack Alloco and David Kurtz for that scene, and sung by the awesome Scott Bennett (read more about him at ScottBennettMusic.com) This song is not available to the public....yet, but since there was SUCH a huge response to the song, maybe I can persuade the powers at CBS/Y&R to make it available at some point.

CSI : Built To Kill Part 2 featured Milt Sutton's song "If Dusty Fell (What She Wants)"

Fans all over the world asked what the song was that played in 3 different scenes during the CSI : Built To Kill Part 2 episode first aired on 9/28/06, and in repeats.
First, you heard the song "If Dusty Fell" (What She Wants) in the scene in the autopsy room where Grissom and Dr. Robbins are singing along to this supposed hit song. Dr. Robbins even sings about "blunt force trauma to the back of the brain" to the melody of the song! Then later,
in the scene where Greg returns to Izzy's house, the song is playing loudly as he discovers the key to the safe. In the safe he discovers the Olympia contract, a picture of Dusty and Izzy on their wedding day and several severed chicken heads.

9/12/07 The new song "Don't Mind Me" in Crimson Lights - J.T. and Cane talk

Boston-based indie rock band THE VITAL MIGHT recently joined the ranks of singer-songwriters heard on a daytime television show - The Young and The Restless, TV's #1 daytime soap, known for its contemporary sounds.

In the scene in which their song was played, J.T. offers his condolences to Cane, who's having a bad day -- he's recently had to watch his mother Jill freak out when her fiance Ji Min was found dead in his hotel room. The song plays under dialogue in Crimson Lights.

Heartbreaking Song on ONE LIFE TO LIVE 9/5/06 "Captured"

Last Wednesday (September 5, 2007) on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, there was a gorgeous montage with a song played throughout it called "CAPTURED", which is on singer-songwriter Bic Runga's Australian import CD "Birds". It fit in so beautifully with the montage of all the captured souls held hostage by the crazies on the show. Todd is enraged that his lost son has been right under his nose in Llanview all along, and parented by Marci and Al. Lindsay's in jail. McBain's a mess, as usual - is he ever NOT in pain? The song was really a perfect match for all that was transpiring in the hearts of the characters.

"Invisible Man" on One Life To Live for the 23rd time!

Todd Herzog's song INVISIBLE MAN, which originally aired on ONE LIFE TO LIVE on October 6, 2003, has been on the show 22 times since then -- most recently on Friday August 24, 2007 of last week. I've gotten alot of emails at Soapsongs.com over the years about this song. Some people asked if it was written for Michael Easton's character John McBain. As a matter of fact, it wasn't! But it was written for ONE LIFE TO LIVE . Todd tried writing a song that would fit in with what was happening on the show at the time , and voila -- thus came forth this magical song which has been embraced by the show and the fans.

Okay, it's been quite a while since my last post - 8 months or so. Sorry, I've been ridiculously busy (who hasn't been, right?) But there's lots to talk about!

First, I've been getting tons of emails from fans asking me to identify songs on the soaps recently - especially THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, which has been using alot of new music from young bands who are not yet on Itunes.

AMC and OLTL FanFest Luncheon '05

Thank Goodness for people like Carol Dickson, the tireless All My Children and One Life To Live Fan Club president. She mounted a fantastic event a couple of weekends ago in Manhattan for die-hard fans of those two shows. The annual AMC and OLTL luncheon was a blast. Thank you Carol!

I’d never been to a fan event before, but I had a great time and learned alot about the dedication fans have to their favorite shows. My husband John, performing artist Sophia Kartadinata-Levy (she’s on the OLTL CD!) and her husband Phil Levy helped me carry our Soapsongs CDS and fliers to the table that Carol so graciously allowed us to exhibit at. I met hundreds of fans from all across the country who’d travelled here to meet and greet the actors from these shows and purchase souvenirs from the various actors’ fan clubs. And the souvenirs were many! From beautiful one-of-a-kind dungaree jackets with photos of all the characters in Llanview and Pine Valley to pens, music CDs and key chains — this group of vendors had it all.

You could even buy a raffle ticket for a dinner with the star of your favorite show, or a furry designer coat some cute size 2 actress (aren’t they all?!!!) had worn while in character.

I met fans who’d been searching for years on internet and in stores to find a song they’d heard on the soaps - and there I was, able to immediately tell them what the song’s title was, and how they could now obtain it through Soapsongs.com.

For me, the best thing was being able to get immediate feedback from fans about what music they had noticed on the soaps, and what delighted or annoyed them. Some people wanted the music turned up because they could barely make out the lyrics, and others wanted it turned down because they wanted to hear every single word an actor spoke without the distraction of music.

I was particularly tickled by one fan who quoted the words from one of our songs that played on the Valentines Day 2004 episode of OLTL “ Girl don’t you know that I want you, so won’t you stay. I got a lifetime of love to put on you, don’t walk away. “ Sandy wanted to know where to find that song - and I was so flattered that she remembered it, because it was used for all of 30 seconds when Bo and Nora danced to it that day!

And just yesterday I got an email from someone who’d been at one of the other soapfan events that same weekend asking me if I knew anything about the John-Natalie song called “Invisible Man”. Well, I sure did, because it was written by one of our writers - and it’s been used in many of John’s agonizing-over-Natalie scenes on OLTL. No one had been able to find that song, so I was happy to be able to solve the mystery for the music fans who loved it. Knowing which songs are popular with fans also helps me figure out what to put on on future Soapsongs CDs.

But what made me truly happy was knowing that the long hours my writers and I spend composing music and songs that air for a few seconds on soaps is NOT IN VAIN, and that people actually notice them and want to hear them again!

Anyway, I just want to say THANK YOU to all of you who find your way to Soapsongs.com with your “what was that song?” questions, because now I know you’re really listening closely. If you’ve got a question I can’t answer, I’ll be sure to convey your questions to the music supervisors who emerge from their editing rooms at the end of long, hard days looking for just the right song to delight you with!

Wow, did anyone notice that beautiful use of "When A Man Loves A Woman" on today's General Hospital episode? (July 13, 2005) Nothing like a great, classic song to pull together a montage about love. Sometimes an instantly recognizeable song like that can bring you back to a place in your own life when you first heard that song, and the scene has even more meaning for you as you watch and listen.

When there isn't any dialogue in a scene, and the song is "saying it for the characters", a whole different dimension is added to the experience. In the best montages, I feel like the soap is no longer flat on my screen -- and I'm Barbara in Wonderland wandering right through the tv looking glass and totally surrounded by what's going on in the show. I can really identify with what's happening to the characters.

Music by itself is pretty abstract - we don't really know what the notes "mean" in and of themselves, but when a lyric is added to the mix, the music suddenly has a more distinct role. It supports the lyric! Add to that a series of visuals, and the effect is now considerably more potent. That's why those montages with songs are so carefully constructed by the music supervisors and their production team. They want to knock you out!

Which is why sometimes it's NOT a good idea to use a well-known song in a montage. The song may remind you of the last time you danced to it with your soon-to-be-ex! Instead of reacting positively to the scene, you might feel depressed. Many times, I've heard from soap fans it's exciting to hear a song you've NEVER heard before, or one that isn't even yet on a CD -- because you don't have any emotional baggage attached to that song, and you can experience that scene and that song as Madonna nicely put it, "like a virgin". And how fun it can be to discover an unsigned singer or songwriter who's not even on the radio yet. He or she is yours alone - for the time being, anyway. Many other great tv shows like the OC or shows on the WB network like to introduce their audience to fresh songs for that reason.

It's been busy in the world of soap opera music lately. So many of my favorite characters are getting into their usual trouble, only this time a touching song will play in their key scenes -- suggesting that there's hope for them!

On Friday 7/8/05, one of our most talented and prolific singer songwriters, Michael Kisur, will be heard on The Young and The Restless in a beautiful scene involving the Daniel-Lily storyline. The song he wrote and sings was inspired by the death of Cassie, the character on Young and Restless who was recently killed in a car crash on the show. Mike wrote the song when Cassie was in a coma, and now it's about to be used in a scene directly relating to Cassie's death. I've been super-busy these last few weeks, getting music to many new Fall season tv shows out there...but my most interesting work is always with the soaps, because frankly, contrary to what most people think about soaps, they do have cutting edge music as well as gorgeous traditional styles of music! And music that no one has ever heard on the radio!!
